We are having problems with our sky box, after it has been on for a while it refuses to switch off or change the channel, drives me potty. We are due to be switched over next year and I was wondering whether to get a freestat box and just keep the phone and broadband, maybe change to another provider for those services? After the mess sky made of us moving I do not have much faith in them, we were without a telephone for 5 weeks, only an email to the CEO got us connected, we still had to wait for the broadband and they tried to charge me a £60 fee....bunch of idiots......I think we may qualify for help under the switch over scheme as OH is over 75 and get AA but not sure what it entails cannot find much on the site.

How old is your box? If less than a year, call Sky and get it fixed under warranty. If over a year, they'll fix or replace it for a fixed fee of around £60, but you can probably get them to waive that if you are serious about leaving.
There's nothing to stop you getting a Freesat box now. The switchover only affects Freeview and analogue TV broadcasts. But I wouldn't pay for a Freesat box when you already have a Sky box which does much the same thing if you can get it fixed for free. There's love in this world for everyone.
