Ummm I too have only ever done dumplings in the SC, however I agree with you, I would put them on top 20 mins before the end, I guess the worst that could happen is that they would become rather large, lol.

Sorry I don't have any advice, enjoy your dinner and let us know if putting them in 20 mins before works!

Cooking dumplings on the hob is fine, as long as there is enough liquid. You may need to allow slightly longer 20-30minutes dependent on the size of your dumplings.
For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.

  • thanks for your replies, I'll have a little experiment then - I quite fancy making a sort of dumpling blanket over the mince/onion/gravy mix - will see if I'm brave enough to try i lol

    Hi boredjellybean,

I would normally cook them for about half an hour on the hob. As fairtrade has said it will depend on the size of the dumplings. Good luck with your experiment. :)

I'll add your thread to the main one on dumplings later as your question may help others.

If you really want to try a dumpling blanket its easy, just put your mince and onions in a casserole dish and roll out the dumpling mix, ( I just pat into shape with my hands) then cover the mince and bake at 170* or 30 mins , it'll go nice and brown and tastes delicious.. we love it OH always calls it Teviot Pie I don't know where that name came from .. but its very popular hereabouts..lol

    Hello,
I cooked beef stew in the slow cooker over the weekend and I have a portion left which I want to freeze. I cooked it with some dumplings towards the end and I was wondering if you can freeze the dumplings with the stew?
    Thanks! :)

Yep, the dumplings may go a little soggy but they will be fine, remember Aunt Bessie sells frozen dumplings.
