Had it for dessert - it was filling, but delicious.
I didn't pre cook the apple, just peeled, cored and sliced as advised.

from a chef.. use bicarb in your flour mix a good cunchy topping,also a cup of porridge oats if you want.[bicarb is also to stop peas /green veg going brown.0

I like porridge oats in my crumble topping. Ground almonds are really nice too but quite expensive. Another thing I have sometimes used is a little bit of lemon zest which is nice if you happen to have a lemon though I probably wouldn't rush out and buy one specially.0 -
