Apple Crumble - Technical Question!

Options
Hi,
I have found the ingredients in the index, however I'm a bit baffled with what to do with the apples. They are Bramleys, so presumably they need cooking first....that's my problem!

Do I just peel, chop and cover with water? Do I slice or make chunks? What consistency do they to be?

Any advice much appreciated!

No, you don't need to cook them first,( but you can if you want to ;) ) Just peel, core and slice. Pile into your dish, sprinkle liberally with sugar, top with crumble and bake at 180 C for 30-40 mins.

I usually peel, core and slice put some water and a little sugar on and put in the oven by themselves for 10 mins - I don't know why though and if I can just put them all in together I'll do that next time!

Hey....The whole nation is going apple-crumble mad!
I cooked it last night, using Bramleys off the tree which overhangs my garden. I just sprinkled the slices with brown sugar, mixed up a crumble, which I made by rubbing plain flour and Flora together to resemble breadcrumbs, when added some brown sugar to this, spooned it over the apples in a greased pie dish and baked.
Tastes yummy with icecream, as you get the hot, tangy flavour of the apples and the biscuit-like quality of the crumble topping contrasting with the cool melting icecream! (Actually, I think I will do some more today)
    keep smiling,

I cook mine first with a spot of water, a dollop of honey and a cinnamon stick. I like them really soft and starting to disintegrate.

My mum had a Tesco finest apple and cinnamon pie when I went yesterday and the pieces of apple were like hard rubber, it was pretty nasty and she'd paid £1.98 for that! I told her I'll make her one next time I go over.

I cook the apple first too, I don't add extra water and sweeten with honey.

I peel, core and slice thinly. Then add a splash of water, sugar and cinnamon to taste. Allow to cook until fluffy, taste and add more sugar/cinnamon if required.

Transfer to dish, add crumble then in the oven

I like others cook the apple first in a bit of water. I dont like hard apples and occasionally if just put straight in I have had hard apples......my fault probably for not cooking as long as I should :D

Ooh yes, it is lovely with raisins. And the apple mixture is nice with rice pudding or ice cream too.
