Bank of Ireland current account / Post Office savings account

I want a current account where I can pay in cheques at the Post Office, with an associated savings account that pays a decent rate. It also wants to be at a bank where I don't already have an account (I have quite a collection).
One option is a Post Office savings account, which is run by Bank of Ireland. BoI themselves do a current account. I'm not worried by BoI's accounts being covered by the Irish compensation scheme... indeed the Irish connection might come in handy.
Anyone have any experience with BoI's current accounts? I didn't find much on this forum about them. Also, are there easy/quick transfers between the BoI current account and the PO savings account? Anything else I should watch for?
Thanks!
