Correct Audio Drivers For Dell PC?

I'm trying to fix the drivers on a Dell Dimension 4600 PC that has no sound. Running XP Home SP3. Device Manager shows that the drivers are not installed (Code 28 error) for both the 'Multimedia Audio Controller' and the 'PCI Simple Communications Controller'. I've tried a driver reinstall and the system cannot find the drivers on the PC.
Going to the Dell support site for this model found me only one audio driver, being the 'ADI 198x Integrated Audio' driver.
I am not clear if this is all I need to fix the problem, or do I need some other drivers that are part of the XP operating system rather than hardware related from Dell?

If Windows cannot get you the driver then you will need to download the one listed as compatible with your computer on Dell's website.0

I know, but I'm not clear how the 2 items shown as lacking drivers in Device Manager relate to the sound problem-what do these items control? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Are you teasing?
What else do you think a 'Multimedia Audio Controller' would control?
I'm guessing the other may be the dialup modem, under 'Communication'.
Voted no. 10 is the worst PCs of all time. Just a power supply problem apparently.0 -
Well this one must be the exception, as it's still running fine on the original PSU 7 years on.
When I switch it on next I'll probably regret saying that...No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just to report that the audio is now fixed after installing the ADI 198X driver.
Unfortunately my neighbours still can't hear any sound coming from the PC. Why? Because when the driver crashed, they assumed that 'the speakers had broken' and chucked them away! D'oh!No free lunch, and no free laptop
