Best way to buy into funds?

Looking for some opinions before I go any further.
I am a novice when it comes to investing but have read bits and pieces on this forum and also some of the savings guides too.
I have decided to build myself a portfolio of funds and was wondering the best way to go about it. I have a rough idea of how risky I would like it and also asset allocation.
What are the next steps and how do you then invest?
Best to go to the management company direct or to use someone?
Sorry I know this is probably very basic to most of you but we all start somewhere!
Thank you

You dont buy direct from the fund house as that is typically the most expensive option.Best to go to the management company direct or to use someone?
You say you know what you want. So, you dont need an IFA. (the IFA would pick the funds and platform but if you are going to do that then you can bypass the IFA).
That just leaves you to pick the platform and select your funds.
Most DIY fund investors will look to Hargreaves lansdown. Just remember to opt out of their marketing!I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
