:( Hounded by British Gas for money not owed...help!
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue as me or has any advice.
I was a British Gas customer back in 2008, moved house, paid my final bill and closed my account. A few months down the line, I started getting letters from a collections company of behalf of British Gas. I did not deal with this company at all, I contacted British Gas instead. They confirmed I didn't owe anything and said they would contact the company and the letters would stop. They didn't, so I wrote again. The letters stopped for a couple of months, then I started getting them from another company. This has continued for over a year and 4 different companies have harassed me at various times, writing me weekly letters and sometimes ringing my house. I have written to British Gas four times and each time they have have apologised and said it will be resolved, but each time it hasn't! The current company is threatening court action. The amount they are asking for isn't a lot (£70) but I actually can't afford to pay it and don't want to, because I don't owe it.
I contacted the energy ombudsman about a month and a half ago, didn't hear anything back, so I contacted them again last week.
I feel so powerless against this big company and I am worried about the impact of these companies on my credit rating. If the ombudsman don't sort it out I don't know what to try next.
Any advice please?
Sarah

Hmmm that's interesting thank you, I may try and find those posts and have a look, though I would rather not go down that route if possible.......0

I'm not sure whether to feel reassured or terrified by the prospect of this! Thank you x0

Why not write a letter of complaint to the MD enclosing copies of all the letters you have sent and received? Maybe that will get it sorted.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

They will effectively sell the debt on. However, if it was paid direct to the Supplier they need to recall it from any agency...or the agency will never know about it! This kind of thing has been very common over the years.
If it is though, it's easy to resolve...so make a big complaint about it because it seems either they are wrong that it is resolved in terms of payment with them or they are just not recalling it.
Eitherway, poor service issues as usual.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
