For shares buy monthly using Natwest or Halifax, it costs £1.50. If you buy in the h-l ISA it's At least a tenner more . The funds on h-l are 0 charge mostly .depends on how much of your mix is shares vs funds. Share prices fluctuate a lot - just look at the banks to see how much you can lose from so called safe shares had you bought in lump sums at peak prices. I think your better off with funds or investment trusts initially. Might be worth looking around depending on what you decide but you have to spread it around quite a bit to diversify risk holding single company shares....0
