en suite bathroom quote sounds v high

But you don't know the full story. Plastering? Electrics? Need a skip? Plus its a flat. If its above 2nd floor, you need to allow extra time to get everything up to the flat. If you have left something in the van, its a 10 minute round trip to get it!
Keep your knickers on! No, I don't know the full story but just trying to give a rough benchmark.
[FYI I live in a fourth floor flat, but I don't remember journey to van being listed on the quote]0 -
Just got similar size en suite done, with similar specs, and it cost ~£2k labour (sorry, can't remember exactly without the bill to hand). The fittings (not supplied by the person doing the fitting) probably came to about £1700. And we didn't go for the cheapest fittings- or supplier either- with everything being Roca, Twyford and Hansgrohe, and not cheap tiles.
So in short, even for London, that sounds extreme.
Had a similar quote yesterday from a 1 man band plumber/tiler/decorator. For labour. Need to buy the materials.
Our bathrooms are separated by a dry wall (tiled). He says it would be better done in plywood, behind the shower (retiled) and behind the loo (painted). Does that sound right? I hear plywood, think water or steam and think disaster.
We may sell the flat next year so now am wondering if I am being mega stupid and should just replace the vile shower cubicle and leave the rest.....I can't think straight from all the stress (we need carpet replacing and other work too and the value of our flat is static)0 -

Hmm. We had our en suite done three years ago.
They took just over a week to do it, and weren't slacking.
Just to record what was involved:
They ripped out the old shower, basin and loo
ripped out the old wall tiles and replasterboarded the walls
ripped out the old ceiling
boarded the floor with ply in preparation for the floor tiles
moved radiator position
installed the shower pan
boarded the shower alcove (1.5 metre deep by 1 metre wide) with waterproof laminated board (no tiles no grouting, no mess)
installed new (mira) shower
installed new glam ceiling with sparkly frog eye halogen downlighters
installed cupboards with worktops around remaining walls, one with connections for basin on top and one for hidden cistern for loo. (you know wim)
installed cupboards and mirror above basin (more downlighters to the basin area)
tiled the remaining uncovered walls
tiled the floor
hung the new radiator, installed shower door, basin and loo
tested everything
and left.
They cleaned up every day and no mess was left overnight at any time. They parked their cutting gear etc in the garage which became the site workshop for the week.
£5,500 all in.
Money well spent. We had them back to do the main bathroom last year. Another good job.
Unfortunately not in London I'm afraid, but if you're in Bolton, I can give you a number.0
