Thank you for clarifying that. I had decided to accept that must be the reason until speaking with a friend today who said it may be because I have no previous 'credit activity' ie never had loans, credit card, store cards etc so I may well have the same problem if I change banks.

Serves me right for trying to be responsible with my money!!

It will definitely be because you haven't scored enough internally.

I'd recommend applying for a new account with someone else, you'd probably end up with an overdraft with at least one bank.

If you've not had any credit previously then you may have to get a credit card with a high interest rate, eg Capital One, Vanquis, Barclaycard Initial, and use it each month then pay the bill off in full.

Thanks again for your advice. I overlooked some information:o I took out a loan in 1998 with a local authority credit union & I had one late payment in 2006. The loan was paid off and subsequently became a savings account. I have obtained my credit report today-

    Credit union - as above
2 mobile phone contracts - all upto date & no missed/ late payments
Mortgage - all upto date & no missed/ late payments
On electoral roll/ home owner - 19 yrs
    No fraud detected.
You indicate that you work for a bank - would the results of a report like this score against me or others in your experience? (appreciate you can't comment on individuals but just in general?)
