On-street Ringgo parking fine - is it legal?

I was recently parking in Edinburgh and used Ringgo for mobile phone payments (£6.00 for 3 hours parking+ £0.20 for text messages) in an on-street council payment system, however I had inadvertently given the registration number of my own car, when I was in my friends car (mine was in the garage). Of course I got a ticket, which I am appealing on the grounds that I had paid the relevant amount.
However, there is a strange thing about the ticket. The contravention is “Parked without Clearly Displaying a Valid Pay and Display Ticket or Voucher”. However when you use the Ringgo system, no Display Ticket or Voucher is issued, so any car using Ringgo is strictly in Contravention. This seems a bit odd. Does it mean that the Traffic Regulation Order and the Payemnt System are out of alignment, and if so would that help my case?

Definitely should, but Scots law can be different. Go over to pepipoo as well as ask their advice.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Seconded, best advice is to post a new thread on pepipoo forums but with pics of the PCN front and back, all of the small print and all of the dates should be readable (just blank out your car ID and PCN number):

HTH, they get most people off most Council PCNs but you must let them see pics.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
