Amex rewards £500 spend

I got Amex rewards and on MSE it says
"A huge boost here is you get up to 18,000 extra points (worth £90) when you spend over £500 for the first three months. Spcifically, you'll get 6,000 points in each month where you spend more than that threshold - plus you earn the normal points on top of this"
Now i read this as in the context of £500 for the first three months:o- when it really should say £1500 for the first three months
I explained this to Amex over the phone and indeed £500 per month over 3 months sounded very similar to what i had mistakenly interpreted as £500 over 3 months - just the word per is missing - but had they said £1500 confusion would have been avoided
I have missed my monthly spend targets and Amex say they will extend offer of bonus points if i spend £500 per month for next 3 months
What i want to know is £500 month ambiguous and confusing? and is their extension offer acceptable? -or should they for example make allowances for what i have already spent and deduct that from the extended period- what do you think?
This is not a rant complaint but just an inquiry to gather informed opinions/advice of members here:)
