Birmingham-ish to Wembley. Suggestions please

Hi all. Sunday 31 Oct I am travelling from Birmingham to Wembley. I dont want to drive all of the way as (im guessing) the parking is going to be astronomical. So Im looking to drive part of the way, park up and get the train in the rest of the way to Wembley.

Does anyone have any suggestions about the best place to get the train from to combine convenience and cheap travel? Ideally need to be at Wembley for 2pm.

I have checked from Birmingham stations to Wembley and its about £15-£19 single (return is needed) but would like to try and get it cheaper than that if possible.

Im guessing soccer fans will do this kind of thing so Im looking for your suggestions.

Cheers all.

  • You can get a Super Off Peak return (via High Wycombe) for £19.50
Birmingham Moor St to Wembley Stadium (change at High Wycombe) the trains also calls at Solihull, Dorridge and Warwick Parkway which could be more convenient for yourself.

I'm not to familiar with these stations so don't know what the parking is like around them.

Are you thinking of travelling closer to Wembley before parking the car?

If driving down the M40 perhaps park at Hillingdon tube station and get the Met line to Wembley Park.

If driving down the M1 perhaps park at Stanmore tube station and get the Jubilee line to Wembley Park.

No engineering works on those parts of the tube network that day.

Wealdroam and Livingthedream, thanks for your input. I have just been doing some research and found a 'great escape' ticket with London Midland that could do the return for £10 through London Midland, but I cant tell for sure whether LM stop at Wembley Central on a Sunday.
    Well spotted... Great Escape.

No, London Midland do not stop at Wembley Central on Sundays.
(very rarely stop there on other days either)

Maybe travel LM to Watford Junction, the London Overground to Wembley Cent. Every half hour. £9.00 Anytime day return... Almost as much as from Brum. :D

    Edited to add:
But the cost has now risen to near the price of LTD's Super Off Peak return.
And using that Super Off Peak ticket, you arrive at Wembley Stadium station which is a much shorter walk than from Wembley Central.

Just had a look on East Coast website and there doesn't seem to be many London Midland trains, so think wealdroam's idea with your 'great escape ticket' sounds good.

But, if you want to find London Midland Trains only, then search Birmingham Stations to Wembley central on the East Coast website then 'show slower route' tick 'London Midland only' and 'update'

  • Cheers to both of you. That super off peak is with Chiltern if I am correct. Just on their website now. Looks like a good deal. Going to call London Midland to see if they plan to stop at Wembley Station on the day as its a major event. Chances are no, but its always worth the call. Thanks again guys for your help.

Hi - I assume that you are travelling for the NFL game ? I am doing the same route and the trains are not the best solution for this. If you are near enough to Brum, the best bet is to book with National Express. They have an organised trip there that can park at Wembley itself, and will leave about an hour after the game finishes. I have done this trip each year and we normally get back to Brum at about midnight. I have paid £72 this year for me and 2 kids

hi there we have done this trip before for an england game - drove to high wycombe, parked there (think the prices are reasonable - about £3-4 for the day) and then got the train in and got off at wembley stadium (am pretty sure it stops here on sundays)

we also found that after the game wembley stadium station was much quieter and not many people going back that route so the trains werent so busy
Wins so far - £50 Faith voucher, Lindt chocolate box worth £30, Nail Varnish, Book
:D Huge thanks to everyone who posts competitions :D

Hillingdon from the M40 is decent.
