Blacklisted house

Hi

My friend has bought a house and he now needs to buy a new boiler but when he applied for an interest free credit card, they wont give him one as his address is blacklisted as there are still lots of unpaid debt at the house. Even though this is not his fault as it was the peson living there before him, is there anything he can do to sort it out? Thanks

Houses aren't blacklisted for credit. Who told him it was? His credit record will be based soley on debts in his name. His ability to get credit will be based on his financial position and his credit record.

Is he on the electoral roll at that address? and has he checked that nobody else is?

Thats tosh, ouses aren't black listed, people with poor credit histories may have difficulty getting new credit wherever they live.

Its more likely because he's not lived there long or isnt on the electoral roll there yet

Come on are you sure this friend is not you?
  • no it is not me, I still live at home. really, He has literally bought it a month and a bit a go! I dont know too much about it, but I thought I would ask....so do you think that it would be that he has only just moved there then and I doubt he will be on an electrol roll yet. The house was repossesd before he got it.

The only thing that goes on a property is a CIFAS warning.

This could happen if actual fraud was committed at the address. It is not a blacklist, as such, but means that further investigations should be taken by the lender before extending credit, incase this is fraudulent.

Your friend might find it best to ask about the 'appeal' route from the company he applied for a loan with. Most have these and he may be able to get them to overturn the decision if he can prove who he is, and of course, there are no other reasons he was refused.

if your friend has only been there a month they are obviously not on the electrol register for that address, you would be very very lucky to get credit without being on the e/r.

also not been in the address long enough to show stability.

Erm - why do you think applications have the section starting "if you've been at your current address less than X years...."

Just because you've recently moved, that's not a de facto reason for refusing credit.

Now if you'd been at your previous address for a short time as well, that possibly would be a negative impact for stability.

Why do you/him think that it is because of the previous debt? Has someone from the lender actually told him??
