Computer has stopped recognising Ipod

Hi
My daughter got an Ipod for her birthday the day before yesterday, i believe it's a nano.
We plugged it into the comp and it found it and we downloaded itunes.
At first it had the ipod listed on the left of itunes under devices (I think),
That disappeared and from then on nothing happens when we plug the pod in, a couple of times a balloon has come up saying put it in the 6point hub/port (I'm guessing) so it will run faster.
I've tried in in every port we have on the comp.
It isn't showing in "my computer"
It doesn't work on a different computer either, do we need a disc
Any advice appreciated please

I'v never used Ipod with the PC, but I doubt you need drivers to use it, thought it would have been plug-and-play (as you'r using it). Try to recharge the batteries on the Ipod and use it0

Check the nano is charged. Flat iPods generally can't be revived by connecting to a USB port, they need a proper wall-charger. Then try reseting the nano
# Toggle hold switch on.
# Toggle hold switch off.
# Hold down the menu and middle button for a few seconds.
and plug back into PC when iTunes is running.0 -
Just also check that the connections are not loose. Try plugging into another USB port.0

I hadn't thought about the charge, we thought it was ok off the computer,
I'll get a proper charger and try that, and I think she tried the player before downloading itunes
Thanks0 -
Sure it's just not taking some time to 'see' the ipod? Mine can take up to 2 minutes from plugging it in until it apears in Itunes.
Easiest way to see is to make sure Itunes is closed, and plug in the ipod. If working properly, it should open Itunes automatically. You can also check in Task Manager to see if 'ipodhelper.exe' is listed.0 -
Try reseting the ipod which usually cures this problem
To reset your iPod:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.0 -
The lead your using between the ipod and the PC could be broken. Get your daughter to borrow a lead and try that0
