how can i find out who the insurers are?

My elderly neighbour has had her car broken into and almost all the contents have been stolen including her driving licence and insurance documents. She can't remember who her insurers are, and made the arrangements by phone. Is there any way I can find out for her who insures her vehicle as she is rather upset about the whole thing?

Any help gratefully received

If she paid on the phone the money must be comming from a card or direct debit - ask her to check bank statements which hopefully will help?

Failing that, visit www.askmid.co.uk and pay the one off search fee to find out who was on cover on the date of loss.

Best to get the car secure now and also get onto the dvla and ask for a replacement licence etc/record the theft. If the tax disk was stolen I beleive there is something that can be done there too, though may be wrong.

Try the Police. They have access to the DVLA and MIB. They might be able help. Failing that check her bank statements to see who she has been paying

Thanks for that - I've asked her to go through her bank information to see if there is some record but she thinks she paid by cheque and might not have written the full name on the stub - only car insurance!

The MID is the best option - all insurers will register the car plate number on here.
