Money Grabbing vs Freebie Grabbing

Ok, not sure if this is in the right place or not, but here goes anyhow....
It saddens me that some members seem to abuse the freebies offered, grabbing as many as they can get their grubby little hands on. This usually means that the offers are gone really quickly or withdrawn due to multiple entries (e.g. fender 60th anniversary pick). This means that people with a genuine need for a freebie often don't get a look in.
I just don't think it's in keeping with the site, or how it should be. However, a member on the Northern Ireland board (my local) restored my faith! I was in desparate need of a double buggy after my one bit the dust. (I have an 18month old and a 5 month old) and having about six quid left in the kitty needed a minor miracle. She kindly offered me hers, for free. What a wonderful gesture!
So, come on guys, lets all stick together!

I agree with you swampie, I think it's a real shame when people take more than their fair share - often just to sell them on. It's not very community-spirited. I dont know why the companies dont limit the offers to one per address.0

It isnt just with freebies, sadly theres people who use these forums to buy goods at knockdown prices only to sell on Ebay. Now although nothing is done illegally, morally I feel it is wrong.
I only buy or ask for freebies that I require.0 -
As the email goes out to nearly 700,000 people this brings many more people to the offers on all of the boards than the people that are actually signed up as members on MSE. At the moment the online people are...
2649 (773 members and 1876 guests)
This means that its not necessarily MSE members that have caused a freebie or whatever to be withdrawn due to demand. Plus most of these offers are posted on many other websites on the Internet.
Sadly, yes it seems to be in some people's nature to brag about the number of freebies they have received but on the other side of the coin some people may well be making their living or paying their debts by selling on Ebay and its not really up to us to sit in judgement as to how people make their living.0 -
I do see your point edinburghlass, but it just doesn't sit well with me. Perhaps if they didn't brag about getting 20 of the same freebie, when people who need it don't even get one, it wouldn't annoy me so much.0

I agree with you Swampie -and I hate the idea of people using others good intentioned tips to make a buck on ebay because it does go against the site as then they are exploiting people just as much as say Tesco's are.0

I hear you Swampie and I do agree with you but really its best to treat the sort of people who brag like this as you would a spammer, ignore them and move on.
If people like this think they are "getting" to people they will just brag even more or tell even "taller" stories. Always remember for every one of these type of posters there are hundreds more who are more than willing to help find a bargain or give freely of their expertise
