Moving House - but changing line provider

hello, I'm currently with sky for tv, line & boradband
I'm moving in a few weeks, and thinking about ditching sky all together (as they want £60 for re-setting up sky tv, on top of the huge amount I give them every month!)
If I want to transfer my number to my new property - AND change provider, can I do it at the same time, or would I have to do one bit at a time?
Thanks!

Are you sure the new place is in the same physical BT exchange area as the existing?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Depending on the status of the line at the new property and who you go with, £60 might be a bit of a bargain.0

The £60 I mentioned is what SKY wanted to setup the SKY TV at the new property, nothing to do with the broadband / phoneline at the new place - sorry if I made that confusing - only mentioned it as if they do indeed apply the charge (ie if I can't show that the property already has the twin cabling from the dish required for my sky+ subscription), I will just leave sky altogether - including moving line & broadband to another provider.0 -
It is almost certain that you will not be able to keep the number then.Ah, does it have to be on the same exchange to be able to port the number? I do know that it's a different exchange (but same STD area)Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
