Recommended sollicitor in Derby?

Hello all,
I'm about to buy a house in Derby, and the agency suggested Countrywide as a solicitor, telling us their legal fees were £703.
Since I'm new to that, I called Countrywide who confirmed £703, but added that with land register/id check/bank transfer... etc the total fee would be £1518. And that does not include a survey!
A buddy in Bristol paid £800+ for solicitor including survey (albeit for a house a bit cheaper), so I'm thinking that countrywide are not the best option 9money wise anyway).
Anyone know/used/recommend a solicitor around Derby? I am of course looking for good services for a reasonable fees.
Thanks!

My current landlord suggested "Flint Bishop" that quoted me £878.75, so in excess of £600 cheaper! He also said they were efficient, so I'll probably go with them.

Solicitors don't do surveys. Surveyors do surveys.

    Do you mean searches?

Very difficult for anyone to advise about whether figures are reasonable without seeing how they are broken down.

Also the amount you are paying for the property, whether it is freehold/leasehold, and house or flat would be relevant.
