I let my kids make a bit of mess - a friends child was hysterically upset when they spilt a drink because they would have got in SO much trouble at home :( I'd rather my kids feel at ease and make a few spills here and there than be paranoid!

If the shirt is cotton then I would put some neat bleach on the stain. This is the only thing that will work if Vanish powder fails and preferable to a stain. I have done this before with school shirts with no harm done and you just have to keep an eye on it until the stain disappears, rinse it and place it straight into the washing machine. This will work even on an old stain.

As the title really - I managed to drop my foundation stick on my work trousers this morning and want to know how to get the stain out!

I have blotted it with water and it seems to have helped a bit but the mark is still there, and Googling seems to throw up loads of different ways to remove the stain - blotting with washing up liquid or shampoo, white bread, shaving foam, club soda (is that the same as soda water or something totally different?), hairspray, conventional pre wash stain remover, a baking powder and white vinegar paste, and washing it as hot as possible with white vinegar. So what's the best thing to do to get rid of it quickly?

I'd use a make-up removal wipe. Did you need to wear them today? If not you could try putting neat washing up liquid on the satin to break the oil, and then wash as normal.

As Sarah says - neat washing up liquid rubbed in the washed as usual - worked for me the last time I did it!

  • Cheers guys - they're not satin, just normal cotton trousers. Will pick up face wipes on my lunch break and give that a go for now and then try washing up liquid when I get in tonight.

A pre-wash soak in diluted Stardrops usually gets foundation/make-up out of white cotton shirts.

    Don't ask.

When I got some on the carpet I used cotton buds soaked in make up remover whilst trying not to rub it and spread it but kind of work from the outside in.
