VW Caddy maxi life or VW Transporter shuttle or something else?

Hi,

I currently have a zafira which I love and has been very reliable but is just not big enough for our family since I am a wheelchair user, we have two young children so also need a double pushchair, and a dog... plus the grandparents are of an age and health where they can no longer drive so need to be able to fit them in too!

I am currently interested in the VW caddy maxi life or VW transporter shuttle and am looking to hear people's experiences/advice, however I am still open to suggestions of other potential vehicles. It needs to be able to accommodate the above plus the wheelchair will be an electric one.

Thanks in advance!

  • thanks Goldspanners, I don't know about this particular model but I think Hyundai has a problem with rust generally... hmmmm... anyone know if that's true?
  • have a look a the mecedes vito duel liner not a cheap motor but reliable and would have the space you req 7 seats plus a good boot space do aprox 30 to 35 mpg so not as good as a zafira but it is a bigger motor. trouble with many a 7 seeter when 7 seats are used boot spce goes as i have had the problem with 3 grandchildren and buggies the normal mpv,s boots are not big enough, and with a wheel chair you would struggle with any mpv. i beleive the vito is in the mobility scheme so you may be able to buy it that way, they also come with 3 years warrenty which can be extended to unlimited miles and a service cover so you only pay per month and not a big bill when it needs servicing. VW service was every 10k vito 20k but check the 115 is a loverly car cruises at 70 uphill and down without a struggle and due to it being made to take a load as a van does not wallow with a load up when going round bends. and not as dear as you may think may be a mercedse but does not have the car price tag

most vans drive this way these days.

the reason it doesn't have the huge merc price tag is because they are s**t. they break easily and then this is when you have to deal with mercs rubbish customer service depts and extortionate bills. steer clear of the merc whatever you do.

transit, vivaro, primastar or trafic, or as earlier the i800 as an outsider. i don't think hyundai have any rust issues do they? the i800 is just new to market so i doubt it.
the merc on the other hand is a different story, just have a look at how many rusty vitos you see on the road.

My sis in law has a Renault Master adapted with an electric wheelchair lift which she got via Motability. PLenty of room but the wheelchair users aren't the drivers.
