Hi all, Have just inherited an older model surround sound system model LG DA 3250 and have connected all ok however i cant get the surround sound through the TV but get great sound when playing cds. I have an older model JVC 32 inch CRT and sky + also. The lg is connected by the cables red white yellow into the tv and the sky + box is connected as standard to the tv by scart, the lg has no scart socket and im mystified as to why it wont play through the tv ?, have i missed something simple or are there settings in the tv menu to cure the issue ? thanks in advance , Pinta.

Your TV only accepts Stereo input.
It would have to have 5.1 input connectors or digital/optical input in order for the LG box to play through the TV.0 -
Thanks irnbru for replying, excuse the stupidity but what do i need to be looking for to know how to fix it ? , the lg has 4 wee speakers, a centre speaker and a sub, is the tv not capable of running this system or do i need to buy cables ? thanx again, Pinta0

The TV isn't capable of running this system. What you need to do is connect an optical cable (also called a TOSLink) from the Sky+ box to the LG. Then whatever you are watching on the TV via Sky will have the audio sent to the LG. You only need to buy the cheapest optical cable you can find. It transmits light so there is no advantage in thicker ones, ones with gold plated connectors etc etc.0

Hammyman thats great thanx for that , daft question but what connection do i need to look for on the sky + box and the LG ? thanx , Pinta0

Ok have found the connection on the sky box but the LG doesnt seem to have one anywhere ? would a scart rca adaptor be any good instead ? thnx, Pinta0

Just found the manual. You're stuffed - its one of those bloody DVD player with a built in surround sound jobs. At best you'll get stereo or Dolby Pro Logic but you're not going to get surround sound.
If you want surround sound, your best bet is to get yourself down to Richer Sounds with a couple of hundred quid and buy a proper surround sound amp. If your bass speaker is powered, you should be OK but if it isn't, you'll need to get one of those too.0
