Non Responding PC

Hi,
When I switched on my PC yesterday, the monitor was blank. The tower has a green light. The light on the DVD is fixed, no light on the Keyboard, no light next to the hard disc, no beep sounds. It is as if the PC is not loading. I have switched on and off a few times and no change. I have checked with another Monitor but the same thing happens, so doesn't seem to be the monitor problem. I have reseated the Graphic card, Memory card. the fans seem to be working. there is a green light on the motherboard. Please advise what is wrong?

The computer is 2 years old, a Fujitsu siemens running XP. It has a AGP Radeon Graphic card and Intel Celeron processor.
I am not very computer literate !
Thanks

Can anyone advise please. After reading various topics on the net, I get a feeling it might be the Mobo,
    Thanks

Does it beep when you switch it on? Does the disk spin?

Try unplugging the hard disk, and dvd drive, any usb stuff, then switch on.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Have you tried to boot the machine in Safe Mode? I assume it doesn't get that far?

Sounds like a motherboard issue, perhaps the CMOS battery?
  • try removing everything apart from the processor. If you do not get any beeps then it will be your mobo

    Thanks everyone,
Today I took it to a Shop and he said it is the Mobo. As the Win XP is BIOS locked by Fujitsu Siemens, I suppose I have to go for a new computer now. I am thinking of buying this from E buyer

    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/102520

and swapping the DVD RW drive and making the old Hard drive the slave. Is it possible?

    Thanks again

Dont see why not. Bearing in mind you can run two drives per IDE channel on a master slave configuration you could use your old optical drive as a slave to the new one as well. I might have missed it but it doesnt look as though the Ebuyer Acer has a floppy drive, I would imagine you could add that from our old machine if you can be bothered. Worth the effort in my book.
Can see why you are tempted - the reviews are impressive arent they. Forgive me if all the following has occurred to you already.....Makes sense why users have added more RAM memory - 256MB enough but not much to run XP on. Another 512MB stick would be my choice - any more might just be diminishing returns. Presume your current memory is SDRAM? Is the card on your old machine AGP? if so, unless its lacking in oomph, I would give that a whirl in it as well unless you are minded as others have been to buy a decent ish 8x AGP card.
Couldnt see details of PSU but see no reason why a modern unit shouldnt be able to handle the above "extras"
