Lloyds tsb classis and Vantage - oh, lucky you...?

I know there are threads regarding Lloyds tsb classic and vantage accounts, but cannot find them for now; apologies - please be patient, I'm a newbie. I went into my local branch to transfer my account from A&L/ Santander (for reasons so many others have written about) to the Lloyds vantage system, having seen so many of you prosper - as said above, oh, lucky you...I took early retirement, live on pretty good savings, look forward (ok, lucky me this time) to a public services pension that will comfortably cover my needs in under 4 year's time and own, together with my partner, my own property - yet Lloyds can only offer me their most basic bank account. As far as I know my credit rating is good (altho I've just paid out to have it checked). I've not been refused a banking service before; where did I go wrong? :(

That sounds odd! I am retired, my pension is only about £2700 per annum, though my husband has a good pension, we own our home, they let me have 3 Vantage accounts without raising an eyebrow.

Even our student daughter has 2 of them.
  • @jennifernil - way to rub the salt in :)

@uselessaver - You can ask Lloyds and they'll tell you why.
Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.
  • I have as good a credit rating as you can get. Yet they refused me any sort of Current Account.

A face-to-face with the bank manager showed them the error of their ways and I was up an running minutes later. I think they are noticing simultaneous credit 'lookups' by the likes of Santander and Halifax, and somehow coming to the conclusion that we all want the account for the 4% interest.

Can't understand why they would think that!!!!

Hullo again and thanks for the replies. Yes, I can pay in the 1K per month - frankly it's less than the 1st Direct current account, and I suppose that'll be my next port of call. Yes, I asked the bank manager why the apparent refusal, Anonymous, but he said he couldn't work it out himself, having had 4 earlier applications in the day, all of which were accepted... I'm going back in tomorrow to see if there's any progress (the manager said he'd try to upgrade the account in the meantime) and to find out more about why he thinks it has been made. We all want the 4%, of course, but if I can furnish the account every month I have to conclude that the decision against me is arbitrary, to say the least... What next? !

Hi, just incase anyone was wondering. I was informed that the Lloyds computer system had found anomalies which downgraded me on my credit rating, so despite my knowing I'm a reliable bet, financially, in a state of foolish paranoia I paid out (silly me) for a credit report and also for my credit score, only to discover (or, rather, prove what I already knew) that the report is faultless and my score the highest available. Rats; that cost me!:( and I'm none the wiser.
