  • I am having a similar problem with Halifax; my wife has taken out a card with a 0% balance transfer but they say that Vanquis will not accept a transfer.

Vanquis tell me to give Halifax their account number and sort code and use my card number as a reference, Halifax say this will be a cash advance rather than a purchase and will charge cash interest on it.

    Any advice please?

Can confirm, any card form sygma (creation, flybe, silver etc etc) will allow a manual balance transfer from vanquis and isn't treated as a cash advance. I've had the aquacard (halifax) and indeed they refuse to do this transfer. As far as im aware, capitalone also allow you to do this.

When doing my balance transfer from Vanquis to Barclaycard, I did it via the BarclayCard website - just entered the details and it went through without a problem.

Hope you manage to get it sorted!

    Best of luck :)

If you try to do the balance transfer via your web account from vanquis to your halifax card, you will find it will fail as vanquis will refuse automated balance transfers. You need to speak to someone and request that they do a manual transfer using the bank details shown on the vanquis website. They will then pay the balance transfer into vanquis's bank account just as you would do if you paid via your on-line bank account. No problems with doing it this way using Sygam cards or CapitalOne. Remember you need to phone up and request they do a manual transfer, unless of course your dealing with a cc issued by Halifax, then they seem to refuse outright anyway.

Even if you do manage to do the balance transfer through your cc account, most of them realise that vanquis requires a manual transfer and do it on your behalf anyway. Vanquis are a law to themselves when it comes to balance transfers, they'd rather you pay the high APR than move it elsewhere paying a lower APR.

I wonder why Vankswiz make it difficult to do a BT, could it be something to do with their horrendous charges and a pound of flesh?
