What would be the difference between claiming IS or ESA. At the moment I claim IS as I'm classed as a carer. If I was awarded DLA in the future would this have an effect on the ESA rate as it does on the IS rate.
ESA = £65.45 per week for the first 13 weeks and then depending if you pass the criteria/medical from week 14,
If you go into the Work Related Activity Group = £91.40 per week.
If you go into the support group = £96.85.

    IS = £65.45 per week.

I know ESA is more but it is also a lot harder to qualifiy for than IS.

I think those premiums only apply if you're receving the Higher rate care component and not the Higher rate mobility.

You get a disability premium whatever rate of DLA you get. There's no disability premium in ESA.

I'm a bit muddled at the moment:(

Fair enough, but not the best idea to tell people they are wrong when they are actually not!

    Work Related Activity Group

If you are placed in the Work Related Activity Group, you will be expected to take part in work focused interviews with your personal adviser. You will get support to help you prepare for suitable work.
In return, you will receive a work related activity component in addition to your basic rate.
    Support Group

If you are placed in the Support Group because your illness or disability has a severe effect on your ability to work, you will not be expected to take part in any work. You can do so on a voluntary basis if you want to.
You will receive a support component in addition to your basic rate.

Well I guess that is it then. He has told me he doesn't love me anymore, but then I guess I'm not much use to anyone with my health being the way it is. I'm not sure what the next step is going to be now.

I suppose I need to sort my life out now. I have applied with several housing associations in my area but I now need to sort out my finances.

Giving my physical health I won't be able to look after the children for a while so I will move out and look for somewhere else.

Depending on what my doctor tells me next month I may apply for DLA as I am having alot of trouble now, my legs are really weak and it is making walking difficult.
Just for talking sake, if I was awarded DLA would I also get Severe Disablement Allowance.
If I then applied for ESA would any amount of DLA or SDA be taken from whatever I am awarded.

I really don't know if I am coming or going here.

My ex husband had Lupus and Hughes syndrome and was very ill for a while-when he got better he left me and the 2 children. It's a nasty disease and can be very painful, as I am sure you already know! He got excellent advcie and support from Lupus UK, which luckily for us is in the same town. They may be able to advise you especially if you do decide to apply for DLA. Despite his severe illness my ex was turned down, as they said there was no proof that he would be in the same awful state in another 3 months (at that time he couldn't walk, was 3 stone underweight and in so much pain he consodered suicide.) Luckily he had a fantastic rheumatologist-once he got him on steroids and pain relief he looked like a different man. He got himself back to full time work in 9 months, despite his specialist saying it was one of the most severe cases he had ever seen (he had quietly told me that he thought he would never work again-he was only 35! So there is hope.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
