Help with Tiscali problems

About a month ago I received a letter from Tiscali saying that they were upgrading the system and I would be without broadband for a couple of hours on 19th September. I have been with Tiscali for a couple of years stress free and have been happy with their service and price so far. On the 18th at approx midnight I was unable to connect to the internet and two days later still couldnt. I contacted their customer services who informed me they would sort it out and gave me a time frame of 96 hours that it would be resolved. I rang back after this time and to cut a long story short they now ring me on a daily basis because I am still having horrendous problems. I seem to be able to connect for a few hours and then it wont work. I have used a linksys router and now this will not work at all with Tiscali. Their speed touch modem seems to work ok but as soon as the router is connected it works for a period of time then stops and then once you connect the modem again unless you call the customer service and have help it wont connect. I am losing patience now and just dont have time to keep messing about anymore. Any help would be appreciated. I know that I could change providers but Tiscali tell me it might be the line being old (my house was built in the early 70s) so am reluctant to try anyone else apart from BT and they are so expensive.

is the router wired, or wireless?
Does it reconnect if you switch the router off and on?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Its a wireless router and has worked fine since we bought it in May. However as I still had the receipt and Tiscali said it was the routers problem I exchanged it with no problems in PC World so its brand new. When weve spoken to customer services their modem seems to work fine but as soon as the router is connected it works for a few hours then wont connect. We then cant go back to the speed touch modem until liasing with customer services again but if we just leave the modem on it lasts a couple of days.0

if you are using it wirelessly, have you proved whether it is the router to Tiscali, or pc to router connection that is the issue?
Is it encrypted?
