cant install printer?

Hi, please bare with me, I am rubbish at computer stuff.
My printer is a lexmark x4550 all in one, it was installed fine on my old laptop.
I got a new laptop with windows 7 on and my printer wont install properly, it gets so far in the installation then freezes and just the fax and photoshop install.
I thought it was my laptop but it does the same on my sons desktop, it appears to install on his but then says the driver is not available, gives me the option to download it, which I did but still it is only the fax and scanner that install.
I really need the printer, I just bought new ink for it at a cost of £30 so im loath to buy a new printer.Any suggestions anyone?

Download the latest drivers from Lexmark, if its a USB printer then sometimes you need to install the software before attaching the printer.
  • Sorry if this sounds stupid, is the software the disk that comes with it?

The disc may not have Windows 7 drivers on it and you will need to download the Win 7 version of the set-up files and drivers. Lexmark have an online helper and you will need to run it on the laptop you want to install the printer on. Follow this link once you're set up on the laptop in question. You will need to have the printer plugged in as well.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Alternatively, you can download the driver for Windows 7 from lexmark here. Just select Microsoft and the appropriate version of Windows 7 you have.
