  • Also, it's always worth checking what processes are running on your machine when it's been booted up. Quite often there are loads of things loading up, and running in the background, which don't need to be (things like mobile phone software, email clients etc) which slow down the machine considerably. I find that sorting that out often makes a 'sluggish' machine much faster. Also, running some type of window washer regularly (like this free one) helps.

For the same price, perhaps http://direct.asda.com/eMachines-10.1-inch-Screen-Netbook-1GB-RAM-Windows-XP/000502760,default,pd.html is a good deal instead? Same specs but laptop version. I'd be interested to know what monitor comes with the Morrisons monitor, but to be honest as imroberts as highlighted, if that's all you want the PC for, why not go portable too and get the laptop? :D

This Asda deal is for a Netbook - which is not as big, in screen or keyboard terms, to a Laptop, and shouldn't really be confused with one. Not suitable for many as too fiddly to use. For regular use at home you'd probably end up wiring it up to an external screen and perhaps even an external keyboard and mouse. Good for you if you're mobile but a false economy round the house IMHO.

The OPs find, for a £170 Desktop with , I assume, a fullsize screen and keyboard, is a much better bet if you just need a basic home-based computer, as long as you know its limitations.

Further (maybe very obvious) point about the netbook, they don't have disc drives.

Yup, they don't have any optical disk drives. The Netbook is no good for CDs or DVDs - and it would be difficult to load programs that come on those without buying an external drive. Only external connections are network and USB.

The OP's desktop is much more adaptable, as that will almost certainly (though we haven't seen a full spec) have an optical drive.
  • This is only £127 at Currys if you have an old computer to part exchange for it.

The equivalent PC World offer. Note it "must be a laptop and must: have an optical drive (e.g. CD/DVD), power up and log into an OS, include the correct power supply and battery, not be locked by a password and not have any significant cosmetic damage, i.e. the keyboard and screen must be undamaged and the casing and hinges intact."

So it's not quite any old PC, unfortunately!

I can't find details of the Currys offer but imagine that the same restrictions apply.

That's a bit uncalled for. He may be a CAD designer for all you know.

Don't agree and as for CAD designer, smells of gamer to me and with 4 kids, seems a high price to pay.;)
