For £360 on gumtree I bought a 3 month old PC:
Quad core
4GB RAM
1TB Harddrive
Windows 7
24" HD Monitor etc.
Just seems worth searching about and maybe save a bit more if u want something that will last a few years.
With no warrantee. Clever stuff :TAsk me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
This would be okay for childrens school work, but definately not a gaming Pc. Maybe the Op has bought it for his children?
I know my hubbies graphics card alone cost £689!!!0 -

Ah yeah gumtree.....easier to sell stolen stuff on there than ebay [even though gumtree is owned by ebay].Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -

This isn't a 'mine is bigger and better than yours thread'. The guy was merely pointing out that he had seen a new pc for £170 - and was letting people know.
Now we all use computers for different reasons. Personally a hardrive means very little as far as size is concerned. There are so many other alternatives available for storing media. CPU may be an issue, but 1Gb is nothing to sniff at. As for graphics cards, for those whose lives run around playing games on a pc, then yes feel free to pay hundreds on a graphics card. All to their own!!Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
to put my two cents in, the fact it is new means its worth something. as several people have suggested you can get a 2nd hand one cheaper with better specs, but in my experience pc's just seem to slow down and become sluggish after a couple of years, and end up with those irritating error messages on start up which baffle all but the most computer savvy.
so imo its worth paying more for a new pc, even if the specs arent as good as the 2nd hand ones for the same price.0 -
just a hint there - Dell e-value code UKBSDONL-D102304 (vostro 230) with 1GB RAM, 160GB disk, Win7 Home and 1 year warranty is £189 without shipping and VAT. might want to give it a 2nd thought - those ebay fees and more shipping cost as well.0

Well my graphics card is a super computer based in a secret underground base in the Nevada desert, the monitor is a multiplex cinema screen, my processor is a not yet invented quantum processor and I 20 Tb or Ram, plus a small field mouse called Henry.
Sorry but this thread was getting silly. OP deal sounds good for a basic user with a warranty, no complications, etc. yes it sound a few years out of date... but he did not submit enough details to rate its value and if he has massively overrated it then fair mistake. But how people can comment without knowing the CPU, GPU, MoBo, Software, Monitor etc. is silly. People should stick to constructive comments - although the comment about about the lappy was a good point :T............... Have you ever wondered what

So a £170 PC isn't as good as one costing £300+ ... I'm sure most people could have figured that out for themselves without slating the OP!
So a 160GB HDD and 1GB RAM isn't leading edge. Agreed. But working on the basis that the OP probably uses a PC to browse Moneysavingexpert, do a bit of online shopping, and maybe write the odd letter, what problems are they going to have with the spec? Likewise for anyone else that doesn't need anything elaborate.
Just cos it's not leading edge doesn't mean it's not capable of doing anything that the average member of the public will need.
Best post of this thread !! Ideal PC for browsing the net and pottering about on. Why buy more expensive higher spec PC when you only need 25% of the spec. IMO a fair deal for a basic PC.
Some posters really cant see past the..... i got a bigger and better and PC snobbery.0 -

Keep them updated, do regular scans etc and there's no reason a PC should slow down and become sluggish unless you've put a ton of stuff on there and are running out of room on the HD.
OP is offering a basic PC. For surfing the net, it'll do you fine. Anything more advanced and it'll struggle unless you upgrade it.0 -
For the same price, perhaps http://direct.asda.com/eMachines-10.1-inch-Screen-Netbook-1GB-RAM-Windows-XP/000502760,default,pd.html is a good deal instead? Same specs but laptop version. I'd be interested to know what monitor comes with the Morrisons monitor, but to be honest as imroberts as highlighted, if that's all you want the PC for, why not go portable too and get the laptop?
This is only £127 at Currys if you have an old computer to part exchange for it.0
