I know many of you will be aware that if you take out cash from the cash point the amount is debited from your account immediately. But if you buy broceries from say M&S and ask for cash back the anount won't be debited for maybe a couple of days.
Also when you buy Petrol/Diesel from Shell again it takes a few days before the amount is debited from your account.
I think this is the best way to make the system work for you

Seeing as I get no interest on my current account, I'm not really bothered about whether the money leaves my account today or in three days time.
To maximise your debtor days (the days when someone else is crediting you), pay for things on credit card to get a month's float, so you can pay for it in arrears and keep your money in savings for a month longer. On a monthly spend of £500, this means your savings balance will be £500 higher on average throughout the year. Still only a tenner's interest gained, but it'll have more impact than your suggestion. It's even better if you can put it on a 0% for purchases card and only pay the minimum payment
