Good Garage Scheme - Beware

  • I wish i'd read these posts before finding a near by garage on The Good Garage Scheme wedsite. I found a local garage that had heaps of positive reviews from the GGS & took my car in for an MOT. They changed my brake pads, but in doing so ruined all the threads on one of the rear wheels: the bearing, wheel nuts, locking bolt etc. I did phone to complain & highlight that they had made my car unsafe. However, the garage owner was fairly patronising & denied that it their responsibilty. The problem had been identified when my friends dad changed the back wheel for me, a couple of months after the MOT. He said the bolts had been 'forced on' probably by some sort of power tool. The wheel hadnt been off/on since the MOT, so i really cant see how the garage couldnt be responsible. With this in mind i posted an honest but negative review on the GGS webpage, this WASN'T posted. I contacted the GGS company to ask why it hadnt been posted, querying whether they only post positive reviews? I eventually received a response stating that they would have to verify my review before they could post it. Suprise, surprise it has never been posted. I have had to resort to doing this via Google reviews instead!!! So, the moral of the story is beware- the GGS garage left me with an unsafe vehicle. It also left me out of pocket, as I also had to purchase parts to replace the damage they had caused to the rear wheel!

I'm afraid a good garage has no relationship to membership of a scheme, price or location.
Any instance where, as a business, you are a paid member of a scheme like the good garage setup is of no use to the customer: When 'checkatrade.com' started and was advertising heavily, I looked into joining. All I needed to do was submit a letterhead and pay an annual fee. I could have been good, bad or very ugly, it would have made no difference. I could also vet and remove any feedback I didn't like. Great for me, but very dangerous for my potential victims, I mean customers...

Same with checkedandvetted.com here in the North East, 3 of their roofers messed me about last year. Just silly adverting scheme.
