i know that. i was just giving you a price guide.
20 windows isnt going to take any more than a week to paint. dont care how complicated they are.
that all depends on what condition the windows are in, how many panes of glass per window and size , i had one window on a house last year that took me 3 days to paint , but it was huge and in a poor condition , if they are in good condition then a week should be reasonable , but however in my experiance very few people think about getting their painting done until the paint is in poor condition , you can easily spend half a day getting a window in a good enough condition to paint if it has to be burnt off , rot repaired , putties replaced etc before any paint is applied0 -

I think its fair to say some (particularly 7 I would say) would need a fair degree of preparation. The others are not too bad, and a couple are being done mainly for completeness.0 -
Yes its far too late in the year to be starting this to get any decent sort of finish. I suppose you could repair any damage and get it to an undercoat stage now but if you gloss at this time of year you'l be redoing it in the spring anyway.
From what you say I can't see how scaffolding is required for just one single window (pic might help to educate me). If its problematical for a ladder thrn a tower is only £ 150 a week.
Its way over the top even supplying F&B paint. Ye gods you could pronbably get a whole set of replacement windows for that! I don't think he wants the job TBH.
Cheers
He wants it, he's chasing us for it!
Window is set deep into a sloping roof (which a tower or ladder wouldn't help with, so ....) Others are probably easier from a tower than a ladder. Since this discussion (mush to tomterm's horror!) we are considering buying a scaffold tower as we have other works we plan to do our selves that would be greatly facilitated by this, over a period of years.
So: the best thing if I do it is to start with prepping the worst windows? Not to just prevent further with a cost to be stripped of and done completely in spring?
Thank you very much, everyone. I am very grateful for the help. I have never used this part of MSE before and am delighted to have had so much guidance and relieved that our gut reaction of  was probably right.
As for replacing the windows, that,s not totally ruled out in the future, but would require consents (listed.) We would obviously want, as well as be required, to match the look of existing windows with double glazing, and sadly that would cost more than this quote. I think its a job for another decade! Under the peeling paint and dodgy putty the windows are not yet in truly awful condition...so it makes sense to try and maintain them I think.0 -
Hi LIR I bought my tower from these people: http://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk/acatalog/scaffold_towers.html
Had mine for about 13 months and used it a fair few times. They have various grades for various uses from D.I.Y to trade , lots of different heights and all budgets.
I honestly wouldn't be without one now.I have the Loyal Industrial one which is 2.8 mtres wide x .9 deep and has a working height of 7.3 metres.......They make one which has a 14 metre working height, which is way up there in the clouds considering that model is less than 1 metre deep.......:eek:0 -

Thank you so much. I've walked around the buildings here, and we have so much guttering to clear out on buildings.....some has not just grass but tree saplings in it! it seems we'd get a lot of use for it.0 -
