Alliance and leicester overdraft, Seriously?

This is just a rant, but I feel compelled to share.

So I've got an £1800 overdraft will A+L/Santander, which I usually dip into about £1600 most months (Lots of big purchases for the house, knocked me there and Ive been a bit Lazy about getting out of it)

So I decided to get my bottom in gear and start bringing down the OD limit, figuring I can probably manage around £200 a month comfortably (more if I stretched but its not costing to much).

I make the amendment through ebanking and go about my business.

They sent me a letter a few days later saying "I'm sorry you cannot reduce your overdraft to £1600" but no real reason why.

I phoned their "()&"$$"!% phone line (bloody pin stopped working) and the lady said it was because, I dont qualify for a £1600 overdraft, the best she can do is £1100

"but I have an £1800 overdraft, I want to reduce it, surely this is a good thing"

paraphrasing "computer says no"

Apparantly they changed their lending criteria, and now I only qualify for an £1100 overdraft, they wont remove my £1800 one as It would be unfair (thankfully) but they wont incrementally reduce it as the computer wont allow me £1600,

I mean its not the end of the world, I can just leave the money in there each month and not spend it, or stick it in my savings account until its ready to be paid off, but !!!!!! me its annoying. reducing the OD at the end of each month is a nice safe way of paying off the debt, removes the temptation of having money around.

Anyway I'll stop ranting now, just the usual Santander poop.

As you say, the computer has spoken.
"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"
  • Santander do Current Accounts, Savings, ISA's, Loans, Mortgages etc.

    And now you want logic!

If you want that, then I'm afraid you need to go to a proper bank.
  • On the plus side, at least you have an early indication of the likely reduction in your overdraft when it comes up for annual renewal (I am assuming they review them once a year, based on what many other banks do).

By which time you'll have got out of your overdraft and you'll qualify for £1,805 :p
Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.
  • How preposterous is that!
