warsaw - there isnt much there, Krakow far better. i flew to Warsaw and it took me a while to get my bearings from the shack airport and i stayed one night and drove to Krakow, stopping off at a concentration camp at Majdenek (the journey was 12 hours).

make sure you dont go on a public holiday

we went easter weekend and had a brilliant time but during easter sunday everything was closed during the day apart from resturants and bars,

all museums were closed including salt mines which we had planned to visit so we ended up walking round the sq visiting all the bars though there was a easter sunday market we also walked u to the castle and that was closed as as well

just beware that all religous holidays will be like this

though still worth going i would reccomend spending all day at Auschwitz II-Birkenau and auschwitz (there is about a mile between the two)

lots of tours go there on buses but if we asked a taxi to take us there it cost about 30 quid return for the taxi which is not much between four of you for a bit more comfort and a better and faster trip there and back.

also visit the florin gate and the Wawel (hilltop castle) both worth visiting

if your looking for somwhere to stay i reccomend the http://www.hotelsaski.com.pl/ we stayed there and couldnt believe how lucky we were to get such a good hotel at such good prices, the inside of the hotel is fabulous and the lift itself is worth a photo on its own.
the rooms on the website are the top price ones but all other rooms are exellent as well.

i could go on and on any questions pm me

Search Krakow in Chat Forum there a some good postings - advice which I followed and had a cracking time.

When you leave the airport you need to go to the bus stop at the foot of the steps right outside the terminal building.A small bus(free of charge) ferries passengers to and from the railway station which is literally two minutes down the road. There is a shuttle train that runs between the airport and Platform 1 of the main railway station, only 4 zl which you pay the Conductor on the train. For the return journey back to Platform 1 and hop on the next shuttle train. Takes 20 minutes. Trains every fifteen minutes.

I stayed in Krakow 5 nights and every day was fully occupied.

I stayed in the Grochowa Youth Hostel that was a bit outside of the centre but the Tara Guest House in the jewish quarter was recommended to us by some fellow travellers - I am sure you will find them on the web.

Recommend the Chimera restaurant for vegetarians and Wendels ice cream parlour on the main square. Your money will go a long way.

I am planning on revisiting again in the Spring, to visit Zakapone and then train to Vienna. Travelling from Krakow to other parts of europe is very cheap.

It is absolutely wrong that budget arilines don't fly to Krakow. Both Ryanair and Easyjet have it as a main destination. Visit their websites and see for yourself.
If you book in advance you can get return flights with BA Gatwick to Krakow for £62 (£31 each way).

Krakow is just great - I went in September this year with friends and it is sooo cheap.

All budget airlines go there we went out with Sky Europe and home with Ryanair for a total of £55 return (not bad).

Krakow is brill eating out if very cheap, we paid around £10 for 3 meals and 3 drinks (vodka) - yes I hear you cry £10 for all 3 of us.

Vodka is around £3 a bottle out there.

Lots of backpackers with helpfull advice of places/bars to go to.

    Salt mines are good too.

Like everybody says your money is like elastic - it just stretches and stretches.
