I have a bad back....

.... and my mattress has recently gone kaput and is causing me pain every night. I bought a memory foam mattress topper but this has nt helped much so im now biting the bullet and looking to buy a new mattress.

Can anyone reccommend one, either memory foam or normal or whatever as tonight im sleeping on the airbed as its the only thing that doesnt hurt my back!

Thanks.

I don't think you will find that asking for recommendations on a mattress will guarantee that you get one that doesn't hurt your back.

You need to go and try a few out in your local bed shop.

First of all, using a memory foam topper on a worn out mattress won't work, as the support from the mattress underneath is very important. If the springs have gone, then memory foam or not, it will still curve your spine.

You may find that any decent quality mattress could stop your back ache. So you may not have to spend loads of money on a top end mattress.

Just remember, trying a mattress out in a shop for 10 mins, fully clothed, will only give you a very rough idea, and won't tell you what it will be like to sleep on. And won't tell you if it will help your back. So make sure you buy from somewhere that has agood returns policy, that will allow you to sleep on the mattress, and return it if you don't like it.

A few things to consider are:
    1. What is your budget?
    2. What size mattress?
    3. What type of base it is going on?
    4. How firm do you like your mattress?
    5. What type was your old mattress, and did you like it beforew it went kaput?
