Girlfriend scam

A few months ago I met a poor but attractive young Eastern European lady
I spoilt her and we had a few dates
I thought we were good friends and even visited Bucharest
I gave her £1800 allegedly for her education
I didnt mind spending money on her and had a good time spoiling her buying clothes and taking her out etc..... BUT
As soon as I said I could not give her some money for a deposit on a flat she stopped seeing me or responding to my calls and texts
To this day I dont know how much of this was true--I suspect that its a scam with some boyfriend or organisation behind it
Its a bit like gambling or lending money to friends--its ok to do it but only lend what you can afford to lose

Sadly I don't think it's a wind up as I believe this sort of thing happens. There doesn't need to be a big mastermind behind the scam - just a girl who has taken you for a ride then disappears when the money stops.

Can I ask how you met her ? Wasn't via the internet was it?

Surprsingly not--I wouldnt meet anynone off the internet
It was face to face
If anything I chased after her so its all my fault
She was half my age so it was never going to work out with her--but I had some really great times which i will never forget
I now realise she needs a footballer to keep her not an average guy who is comfortably off like me
I suppose I am concerned if she meets another English guy and repeats it again and again
But thats life!!

There was a similar thread here a while back, think it was a parent who posted it, but can't remember the title.

The girl was taken in by a con artist 'boyfriend', he went by several names, the parent also set up a facebook page to try and stop other girls being taken in by the con artist.

Happens all over the world, especially in Thailand. Chump goes on holiday, falls in love with bargirl - best sex of his life, returns to UK, sends her money so she doesn't have to work in a bar anymore (but she still does), then her grandma needs money for an op, then the granddad, then the pet monkey, he goes over on more holidays to see her, she's quite happy for Chump to visit the entire family and splash out money on them, they are happy to play along, then she wants money to buy land and build a house together for their future, he stumps up not realising that foreigners can't own property in Thailand so it's all in her name, more and more money passes before he's dumped and she has other "boyfriends" she's similarly milking. Welcome to the real world.
