Things to do in and around Benalmadena costa del sol

  • hi

my dh have been to benalmadena 3 times, only reason we didn't go this year was because there were no local flights. Haven't been since december 2007.

we find it a nice mix of quieter bars/ restraunts but enough in the area to keep us busy. There are also areas with nightclubs but they aren't in your face at all. A walk along the paseo and the marina is lovely, lots of ice-cream shops! There is a lovely park (paloma) with a large pond to watch the birds on. The open top bus used to be a rip off, but there was a little train from the marina to arroya de la miele (where the train is and the market, lots of lovely shops and restraunts too) but not sure if it will run out of season. Tivoli world is worth seeing and you can pay to just get in and see the shows without having to pay to go on the rides if thats not your thing.

Outside benalmadena, mijas is worth a look although it is on a hill so steep areas. There are a few shops offerring tours, most are cheaper than the reps tours. For gibralter we went on a dolphin watching tour rather than the monkeys which was fab. We weren't so keen on fuengirola, but marbella is suposed to be quite nice for shopping. We went on an evening trip to puerto banus to star spot and see all the expensive yatchs. We also got a local bus to malaga and did the open top tour bus from there which was good. There is a water park in torremolenos, reasonable to get a taxi there, not sure if its open out of season.

    hope that helps
  • forgot to say we used a caxtonfx card in spain, very easy to use, but it warned us NOT to use it as a deposit at the hotel because of the way they take the details from the card means you sometimes can't use it elsewhere. Might be worth checking your details first.

hi dizzybe, we went to gibralter on a thomson trip. i know we paid through the nose, but we were looked after from boarding the bus at the hotel, a guide took us into the square at gibralter pointed out places of interest then we were left for a few hours to explore the town then we boarded a mini bus to go up the rock, the driver was very informative stopping at places of interest and also stopped to see the apes, then we went on a tour of the world war two tunnels. it was a great day out

For Gibraltar enquire at the bus station for a bus to La Linea which is the Spanish town adjacent to Gibraltar. La Linea bus station to Gib. border is less than 5 mins.
