Can I prepare lasagne in advance?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to posting but have been lurking for a long while so thank you for all the wonderful tips and ideas that you can get on all these threads

I just have a quick question about lasagne which I'm cooking for dinner today... can I prepare it now and then cook it later on when we're ready for dinner or does it all have to done at once. Does that make sense?

I'm sure it's a very silly question so I apologise!!

Hopefully will post more now I've started!! :D

Caz xx

Yes you can. Make your meat sauce, make the cheese sauce. Layer the sauces with the dry lasagne sheets, cover and leave until ready to bake. This is the way to prepare a lasagne for freezing as well.HTH:)

I always prepare it in advance. Just keep it covered so the white sauce doesn't get a skin on it.

If I make up a lasagne but do not put it in the oven - how long do you think it will last in the fridge before I can cook it.

I am on jury duty tomorrow but by the time I come home I will not have time to make the lasagne from scratch and then stick it in the oven. I have family coming and I know that lasagne is a fave so I would like to do it if poss.

The other option is to cook it all today and then do a reheat tomorrow but I feel that isnt always the best for the pasta as it goes a wee bit rubbery.

I have made a Lasagne the day before I want to cook it and we are all still alive to tell the tale. :D

  • Two options - 1. Make today - mikey tomorrow.
    2. Layer it all up today - pop in fridge - cook tomorrow night.
Personally I prefer to burst mine in the mikey and crunch off under the grill so it doesn't dry out but everyone's different.

PS Option 3 - long day of jury duty - get a takeaway (not OS I know)

I would love to do option 3 but 4 mouths to feed on takeaway is beyond my money saving budget at the moment - the lasagne works out at 50p per portion so huge savings.

I make Lasagne. I make and eat half on the first day with a jacket potatoe, then we eat the other half the next day with steamed veg. I also sometimes make a large batch and portion it up to put in the freezer for quick meals afer work (defrost first).
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
  • Or another idea - just do the mincey bix bit and cover it with a lid. Get in - warm the pan up and do some spaghetti
