If no one comes back with a recipe for digestives, could you use Twink's Hobnobs instead? Easy peasy to make.0

unfortunately, I only seem to like McVities as all the others are 'sweetmeal' digestives and I am so sad I can taste the difference and I don't like them, plus I like making my own biscuits anyway and just wondered if there is a recipe?Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00

Hi milliemonster,
There's a recipe on this thread:
HM digestive biscuits
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I'm surprised you couldn't find oatmeal at Asda. Tesco stock it with their baking supplies rather than the cereals.I made digestives once from one of Nigella Lawson's books - How To Eat I think it was, they were very good.
Nigella Lawson's Digestives from How To Eat
175g spelt flour (I used wholemeal plain flour)
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
45g medium oatmeal (not porridge oats)
30g demerara
45g lard or Cookeen or shortening or other white vegetable fat
45g butter
milk to mix
Dice the fats and make sure they are cold -btw don't be tempted to use all butter, they won't taste right.
Put dry ingredients in a bowl and rub in the white fat, when it is about half rubbed in add the butter.
When all the fats are rubbed in add cold milk slowly and gradually a scant tbsp at a time. Mix to form a firm dough.
Flour a work surface and roll to about 5mm thick. cut out using a 6cm cutter. Place on a non-stick baking sheet. Stab with a fork if you want authentic holes.
Bake at 200c/gas 6 for 10-15 mins. Don't let them get too brown.0 -

Have you tried Sainsburys basics digestives? We think they are a really good substitute for McVities. They are just as crumbly (Important to me as I don't like the harder ones - the sweetmeal you mentioned?) and have the same sort of (difficult to describe) kinda salty taste if you know what I mean?
They are only 33p for 300g so maybe worth a try if you are near a sainsburys?
It's only a game
