Foreign Coins
Does anyone know of any charities that collect foreign coins? I've just come back from the Czech Republic and have a pocket full of Czech Koruna. The notes I can change back into pounds but nobody will change the coins back.
I also seem to have coins from other countries I am unlikely to visit again in the near future, like Cyprus, Turkey, the USA, all stuffed in the back of a drawer from various trips. There is probably less than a fiver's worth of each currency , but rather than throw them away I would rather give them to an organisation that could make use of them. I seem to remember Oxfam used to collect foreign coins in the shops. Anyone know if they still do?

Hi
Why not try your local charity shop. I recently took an assortment of foreign coins to our local chairty shop, Sue Ryder. They were received with thanks.

Most airports have a large charity box on your way off the plane for you to donate foreign currency........."Well, we are a Christian country, it is an important part of our make-up and I don't see any reason to change." David Cameron0

Oxfam take them - drop them in to the nearest shop.0

Or you could eBay them and donate the proceeds to anyone you like.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Help the aged also collect coins you cand rop them off at your local shop or a collection can be arranged if you have 10kg in weight.

I've just returned from India with around £20 in rupees. I know charities will take this, and I also know from IR website that it will qualify as gift aid - but I can't find any websites of charities who will a) take it and b) mention gift aid.
Can anyone help? I'd prefer it to go to an overseas charity because I didn't spend it all overseas, IYSWIM.
Thanks.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi
Help The Aged would take your rupees but we can't claim gift aid on them.
You can take them to any Help The Aged store or p.m me and i'll send you an address of where to post them.

Thanks James, but I have found an overseas charity - OneWorldAction - which can claim Gift Aid.
I am really surprised how difficult it was to find out this info - generally speaking was v small local charities who had sufficient info. Big charities are missing a trick here.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

was just going to suggest Sue Ryder Care who have just started claiming Gift Aid on items donated to their shops. First people to do this, as far as I'm aware.
Biggest problem I guess for foregin coins is that the amounts are usually small individually, but larger combined, so tracking the Gift Aid could cost more than the income (in many cases)for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.
