lunches....
sandwich/bagel/roll, tinned pears (decanted from massive tin from Lidl into small cliklock tub), fruit, chopped salad
tuna/pasta/sweetcorn/mayo
leftover pasta bake with salad
Even buying decent quality breads, cold meats etc it's still going to cost you less than £25 a week on lunch, especially if you cook dinner (rather than buying out) and use leftovers for lunches
Edited to add - you do'nt need to cook for one if you have a freezer - cook the four person recipe and freeze three portions for another time. This will work out more expensive for a couple of weeks, but thereafetr you will only need to cook from scratch a couple of times a week to add to your selection and you will always have variety in the freezer
Don't forget that if time is an issue in the morning you can make a batch of sandwiches on a day off and freeze them. Take out one pack each morning before work and it will have defrosted, and still be fresh, at lunch time
If you have a microwave at work then your possibilities are almost endless0 -
No comments on this wig fandango, but I could tell you how it is possible to spend over £500 per year on one's hair...
I agree that it';s possible, in the same way as I believe it's possible to spend £100k on a car. However, you can have a haircut for less than £20 every 6 weeks and save loads, without having to resort to a wig. Likewise, you can buy a small 2nd hand car for £5k - no need to go everywhere on roller skates :rotfl:jackieglasgow wrote: »Is it possible that this is a windup?

Hey am a old school convert of sorts, dipping my toe in as you say and the frothy takeaway coffee situation is close to my heart. i like to enjoy one a week but recently got a receipe for a good alternative that really hits the spot. i subbed the coffee beans and grinder for a good quality asda coffee (extra special £1.84 - not so MSE but last a while and i need at least one indulgent pleasure in my day lol).
heres the link - hope it helps someone :

What makes me sniff a troll in the first place is the introductory question:
Are you more frugal than me?
And then the post proceeds to give us the (preposterous) Save On Hairdressing By Wearing a Wig (my kids would say "yeh, right, wotever..."), then the £200-250 per month food spend; obviously the OP has not read the 50p a day thread, if she think she is the Most Frugal! A truly frugal family of two adults and a nursery age kid can get a decent meal with a lot less than that for a month shopping, I am sure!
Or perhaps the OP is genuine and only a bit misguided in her approach (that initial question really grates, I am sorry to say) - if so please accept my apologies for being an old cynic, welcome to the thread and hope you will find sensible and rewarding ways of being frugal in your daily life. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I think the op should read 'sneaky ways to save the pennies' and the 'gone to far' thread where it boiled own to fairy hammocks and family cloths.0

So where is she now???? usually posters come back!!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Have only read the opeing post so far so apologies if this has already been said but......it isn't a competition about who is more frugal than anyone else.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

The OP of course may wear a wig because she has a medical condition and not JUST because it's frugal...her post only says that she wears a wig so saves money on haircuts not that she wears one TO save money on haircuts.
She might feel a bit odd about some of the comments made?Piglet

I actually read the 'who is more frugal than me' completely differently to what's been suggested by some on this thread.
The OP came across to me as feeling fed up and deprived and wanting to hear from other frugalees so she could feel a bit less alone and isolated.
I also agree (with the less cynical posters) about the wig comment - no mention of why, including the fairly common assumption here that it was to save money, just her comment that it was saving her money.
As to why she hasn't come back, to be honest I wouldn't bother if I were her. I know you're all a nice bunch but it's not that obvious from this thread and as a newbie, why bother trying again.0
