I have been uneasy because both my loan repayment (£130) and my car insurance (£110) have been looming.
I expected the insurance to go out yesterday and the loan on the 6th/7th (like normal). But both went out today.
I went £20 over-overdrawn BUT I'd gotten up early to double check, and I had more than enough in another account to pay some across. I was so proud of myself but haven't had anyone to tell!
OK - I have about £35 left in the bank to last me the rest of the month, but Mom owes me £170, I have £50 coming in from PayPal and £40 wriggle room on my credit card*. Woo!
*I am paying it off, not using it, but just incase I run into an emergency!0 -
I'm having quite a good month!
It was my birthday last week and I got £65 in cash and a £15 gift card. I decided I'd use the money for a trip to see my OH this weekend (we're in a long distance relationship during term time and see each bother about once a month right now) so the money paid for my train ticket and food, plus I came back with £10 and some shrapnel!
I used the gift card (and £5) to buy some underwear in the sale - underwear in my size is quite expensive so I don't have much that fits me properly, and I saved about £20.
And I still have money left in the bank, and on my overdraft, and on my credit card. And possibly some pennies in my PayPal account. Now I just have to make it last!
I have worked out that I won't get paid *in* February - it'll be immediately before, and something like the 2nd March. I need to work out how this affects me, and I need to get on top of Quicken.0 -
hey hun, im only down as far as page one, but I love the goals you have set yourself, think I am going to steal them for myself, will read the rest tonight. Keep smiling x0

I'm not doing very well with keeping track of some of my goals this month. I can think of several excuses but I'm not going to bother, and I know that next month needs to be better!
I can't believe I actually have space left on my overdraft, credit card and money in a separate account and my PayPal account and it's the weekend before PayDay.
My spending habits haven't been amazing this month either, so to have pulled it off I'm quite impressed!
My only real concern right now is that my parents want to stop contributing to the horses rent. I totally understand it and in theory I can afford to cover the whole amount but in practise? In trying to keep up the charade however, I can't let on that I don't have the monies!
I think what I'm going to suggest, is that they can stop that contribution but that I will keep the proceeds from the sale of his saddle to put into savings rather than putting it into the emergency horse fund. I'll then use that to pay off a big chunk of my credit card, so it won't help with my day to day outgoings, but it will give me access to the money should I run into major trouble.0 -
I explained my plan to Mom this evening.
I said that I was happy to take on the full cost of the horse's rent but that as it would reduce the amount I was able to put into savings, I wanted to keep the proceeds for the sale of his stuff for my savings accounts, rather than putting it into his.
In practise, the money will be paid off my credit card. :cool:0 -
Great news - the insurance company are paying out on the veterinary claim! This means I no longer have those vets bills looming over me, and that I can claim back on the travel expenses from November. It does mean that we'll be going back to the veterinary hospital for a check up, and I will need to pay for that upfront but then I can claim some back, up to a total of £500 for both lots of transport.
It also means that a friend who's done a lot of treatment on him, should get paid for it. Owing people money is IMO worse than owing a bank money and I have felt quite guilty watching it build up.
Also had a wonderful email from a customer at work today, complimenting me on how I went above and beyond for her at work, so the combination of those two has made this an awesome day!0 -
Ok, there are 13 watchers for my saddle but no bidders and it ends tomorrow night! I'm starting to panic a bit now - I really need it to sell. :undecided:
I'll be submitting the transport invoice to the insurance company tomorrow, it's just a case of how long it takes to get paid. This will cover the trip back - or it should, I don't see why we'd be there longer this time. I'm going to ask if I can postpone his rent until I know that cheque is received and cleared, just to be on the safe side. I'd hate to get caught out this month when it should all work out fine.
I'm wondering whether it's worth trying to reduce the amount of my loan repayments, i.e. increase the term. I'm not entirely sure how this works though, or whether it's even possible to re-negotiate an existing debt except in dire circumstances. As I am meeting the repayments (and really it's cut close, but always OK, I just panic a lot), I don't think my circumstances are dire. The problem would be making sure that the "spare" funds went off the credit card instead as I'd probably be inclined to spend them elsewhere.0 -
We received the cheque from the insurance company, but they made it payable to Mrs which is Mom, not me (the account is in her name). No biggy, except she hasn't paid it in yet and we've had it since Saturday.
Today's trip back to the vets cost the same and I wrote a cheque. I don't have enough money in my main account for it right now, but I can scrape it together if the cheque isn't paid in and clear in time.
I have also sent off todays invoice for which we will be partially reimbursed (there is a £500 limit on transport costs). This will be a nice sum of just over £200 and I'm going to use it wisely! I'll probably pay off a chunk of credit card with it, as then I still have access to the money should an emergency come up.0 -
I've had a few days with my OH which have been lovely, and whilst not cheap, they weren't as expensive as normal! We didn't eat out once, although we did buy food in from Tesco (mostly because he's a student, and didn't really have anything in).
I have also booked myself in for a haircut on Saturday. I'm thinking of pushing it back a week though, so it comes after Pay Day rather than before. It's going to be just under £50 and I know I could get it done cheaper elsewhere, but I haven't found another stylist I'm as happy with. I don't spend a fortune on clothes or make up, I don't get my legs waxed or go for any other "pampering" and I only usually get my hair cut once a year. I love my hair, and I want to know that I will walk out of the salon happy, but still. Why I agonise over it I don't know - as I'm sure I'll end up going either this week or next!
Now I just have to stay afloat until Pay Day.
