Blocked Drain = Roughly How Much?

Hi Guys, got a blocked drain, it does go down slowly but think it needs sorting before it get's completely blocked. I was going to call out dyno rod or similar to sort, anyone know what their call out charge is. It has also been suggested to get some drain rods and do it myself, found some drain rods for £10.99, but do you think they will do the job, to be honest I am just not a diy person but I don't know whether to have a bash and probably pay far less or get the professionals, any suggestions.

  • Try the rods first and see if it clears it

Take it you have checked the under sink pipe work amnd U bends first (assuming it is a sink that is)
  • Yep, Dyno will charge a minimum of £75+VAT. It's on there website. Mention that to the guy who turns up if he tries to charge more for a simple unblock with rods.

If you've checked your internal pipework as suggested above, it's also worth lifting the manhole cover and having a look. You may be lucky ( as I have been a couple of times ) and find the blockage is right at the manhole cover. If this is the case, you can try my patent, hi-tech, ultra-high-cost solution - have a poke around with a garden cane and a hosepipe :-) Sometimes it works.

Failing that, a cheap set of drain rods has got to be worth a try, any professional company is going to charge you a fair bit.
