Accident last year advice needed

Ok.... Last year I had an accident i went into the back of another vehicle. I was going down a hill where further infront of me there was another accident the police came over to me and said a lorry had spilt alot of diesel all over the road so my trees didn't stick to the road when I was breaking luckily no car went into the back of me I had a police claim number but
Insurance said it was my fault so I lost my no claims is this correct
