Housing Benifit for lodging couple

Hi,

So after sorting something out with my landlord. he has decided to let me apply for housing benefit. Basically I am a lodger in a double room with my girlfriend in a large 9 bedroom house. I am the only lodger. My rent is 75pound per week. Will my landlord or I have any troubles getting housing benefit for me? and what would I be entitled to? I am currently unemployed due to being dismissed and my girlfriend is in fulltime education.

Any advice appreciated.

Who occupies the rest of the house? Is it a family and is your girlfriend part of the family?
  • Its someone I used to work with in my old job, not family. Just the landlord me and my girlfriend live there.

You will be able to claim the shared room rate of LHA. If you check on the website of your local authority it will tell you the relevant amount.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Its 66pound a week, would I have to find the extra amount as the rent is more?

but......if you're living with your girlfriend would her income not be taken into account? Even if she is not working, the full amount of student loans available to her would be taken as her income.
