she saw the head of the department today and he looked through his list of people who are facing withdrawal and she wasn't on it. she's been told to sit tight and wait till this is figured out. must have been a clerical error. but the list does exist, so it means other students are facing this problem too and it's only been 3 weeks of studies

    Glad she's getting it sorted.
There are a lot of reasons why someone may be facing withdrawal by the university:
    Failure to attend compulsory lectures/labs
    Failure to fully register
Failure to provide evidence of qualifications/proof of fee support
    etc...

It could well have been that the 'introductory lecture' was actually enrolment and so by missing it she hasn't fully registered for the course. Or it could be a admin glitch, they do happen from time to time.

Three weeks of studies is ample to figure out who is taking their education seriously. If the class is compulsory then they will have missed a large chunk of it and can be kicked off the course.

I go to Greenwich and although I don't do the same course as your sister we were warned that if we missed any lectures within the first 2 weeks then we'd be withdrawn, one of my flatmates actually does the same as your sister and she said they've been told the same. But I know people that missed the introductory lecture and have heard nothing.

Does her lecturer take a register? She may have come in late to one lecture and forgotten to sign it, either way make sure she attends all lectures and seminars and completes all assignments until she hears further, this could help show that she is committed to her education.
