I have a detached garage which I wish to knock down- it measures approx 16 x 8 (ft).
My concern is I believe the roof is asbestos (how do i know for sure?) also I have been quoted £500 for the asbestos roof removal/ disposal- is that reasonable?
Location: havering, Essex- if anyone knows anything about above or can assist, please let me know-
Cheers

Seems ok I was quoted £580 to remove and dispose about 30 square meters of floor tiles.
I did have a bit of an issue when they found extra tiles under the top tiles and the price went up by £100.
Make sure you have a firm quote and details of what they are removing and what happens in the case of complications.
I had a bit of an argument with them becasue the quote said removal of floor tiles which was vauge. They then removed the "extra tiles" before I had a chance to inspect and took some photos of them.
I was arguing that their quote was vauge.0 -
1½ to 2 hours to remove it and no more than £ 100 to dispose of it and they want £ 500!!! This is not dangerous asbestos unless you cut it with a jigsaw or similar. Do it yourself.

It cost us around £200 to remove about half the size so your price sounds ok.0

If you look on Essex County Council website for refuse/recycling they list several companies registered to remove asbestos. I used Asbestos Collection Service, based in Benfleet/Canvey, when the soffit boards were removed from our bungalow.

Once again do it yourself - asbestos cement really is NOT dangerous as long as you are careful.
