There is usually a good reason why something is free. It's worthless.

Is discontinued. No support from now on. Same as Quicken.

Is a good program, but there will never be any enhancements, and almost certainly no 'migration path' to other software eventually, other than typing it all in again.

Also this free copy is only compatible with US versions of Money, not the UK version which uses a different file format.
  • Aww that's a shame, didn't realise they had discontinued Money. I think mine is the 2005 version, which I love. I only use it for general in and out goings and forecasting, the reports are interesting too. I don't suppose I will miss any of the other features. It does what I need it to do, and saves me ploughing through spreadsheets.

I too have MS Money 2005. I had almost every version going back to the early 90s. Its a great program and I can credit it for making sure that I have never incurred bank charges.

MS Money 2005 still works on Windows vista and Win 7 but needs to run as administrator or you can run it under virtual windows XP in Win 7 (if you have Win 7 ultimate). You should be able to pick up the UK edition of MS Money 2005 on places like Ebay.

Shame that this sunset version isnt compatible with the UK though. I have looked at a few alternatives over the years but never found one that matches MS Money.

Nearest, probably, is Quicken 2004 final version. But, like MS Money, unsupported and no guarantee it will work on future Op sytems [e.g. standard 2004 version doesn't load on Vista 64-bit, but 'final' version does].
